Petitions are Being Circulated – Other News Items.

  • The little two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Barton died last Sunday afternoon.
  • Mr. Paul Thomarsen, the U. P. Agent was in Ogden on last Tuesday attending the trial of some prisoners he assisted in capturing here some time ago, Elmer Peebles of Wood Cross, taking his place for the day. And we understand Mrs. Peebles looked after Woods Cross station in her husbands absence wearing the cap in true agents style.
  • It seems our postoffice is to change hands.  There seems to be quite an interest taken in who will get the place. Mrs. Proudfoot and Mrs Kinnett each have a petition in the field. Mr. Clow, who has held the position for one or two years, has no objection to continue as postmaster, but his petition has but few signers so far, as the people seem to desire a change.
  •  Monday evening next Harry Taylor’s dramatic company play Belphegor at the music hall.
  • Hasley Morris and Company of Ogden shipped a car load of hogs from here this week.  Believe they went over the Rio Grand R’y to Tennessee pass.  This is the second car shipped by these gentlemen within a month.               DENNIS

MORE KINKS.

  • To the Editor: — Your paper is a welcome visitor to the homes of our best families.  We wish it continuous prosperity.
  • Our town will have a new blacksmith and woodwork firm, at an early day.  Their large frame building is in position on Main street.  They promise to do first-class work at prices that will meet the depressed market for produce and scarcity of money.
  • It is reported that a new company will run our brick yard next season, as the old management was not a financial success.  It is said that their finances were strained in the infancy of its operations by too much salary for bosses.
  • OUR POST OFFICE — is receiving much attention by applicants for the position of postmaster.  Two ladies are circulating petitions for signatures in their respective interest; it is alleged that so earnest is the endeavor of one lady for signatures that she resorts to fraud and misrepresentations, if that is true, her conduct is reprehensible.
  • A lengthy petition has been signed by our best citizens for present incumbent of the office to have his commission continued.  A responsible citizen signed the postmaster’s petition, and said, “I have frequented the post office almost daily, and have always found our postmaster courteous, polite and obliging to children and adults alike, and always at his post of duty, and capable to manage our postal affairs in first class condition.  That which others are doing is for the gratification of partizen spleen.”
  • Rumor assures us that the Banking company will commence the erection of a fine brick bock, on the corner opposite their present location.  The block is to be two stories, and the upper part to be a fine Thespian hall.  Citizen. (J. B. M.)
