P. J. Ahern Acquitted – Larg Fish Pond – Personal Notes.

  • The Eagle last week contained a lengthy, well written and very logical article strongly advocating a system of waterworks for Kaysville City.  It was replete with practical suggestions on the subject.  That’s right, Sister Smith, work up an interest in the matter and if success crowns your efforts, which we hope it may, you will be entitled to the undying gratitude of an appreciative public.
  • P. J. Ahern, a transient who won notoriety by borrowing a horse from William Wallace of this place, without the formality of getting the owner’s consent, and who languished in the county jail as a guest of Landlord Wood for several months in consequence, was acquitted of the charger of horsestealing by a Salt Lake jury yesterday. The truth is the fellow was in a maudlin state of intoxication bordering on insanity when he committed the deed, and considering he has been in the bastile five months awaiting trial it seems an act of justice to release him.
  • W. Barnes has just completed the construction of a large fish pond on his premises, and has stocked it with about one hundred embryonic specimens of the finny tribe of the carp variety. We hope Mr. Barns’ piscatorial venture will prove successful
  • Elders George T. Hyde and C. E. Layton have received notifications to prepare for missions to the Southern States, and they are expecting to leave on the 20th inst.
The Seventies quorum of which these brethren are members, are arranging for a farewell and benefit ball, which will be given at the Music hall on Friday evening this week.  The young Ladies M. I. association have kindly proffered to get up a free lunch for all who attend, and there will undoubtedly be a great many.

PERSONAL NOTES

  • P. Willey, who boasts an inheritance in the land of Bountiful, has been here a couple of days on business connected with his office as assessor of Davis County.
  • The city council recently appointed R> W. Barnes as keeper of the municipal wampum, in place of G. T. Hyde whose resignation as city treasurer took effect May 1st.
  • Seymour B. Young of Salt Lake and Richard Pilling of Alberta, Canada were the principal speakers at the regular services last Sunday.
